Don't know if anyone here is into the "steampunk" thing. If so, you might get a kick out of this site:
     http://www.krakenrum.com/

They have several short videos telling the story of how Kraken Rum came about. Very 20,000-Leagues-Under-the-Sea-ish.

Anyway, I broke the rum out tonight, and am pleased to report that it's really quite good. The first thing you notice is the color. Almost black. Seriously. Downright scary looking.

It's a spiced rum, which I like, but I've had some that were overwhelming, or had odd aftertastes. Kraken rum doesn't suffer from these problems. No one particular flavor stands out, and the last sip is as good as the first. Highly recommended.

Best enjoyed with Abney Park's "The Derelict" playing in the background. Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum!

I make a mean spiced Rum punch every year at Christmas. I mix it with Apple cider and orange peels. ChickenDance

Lynx, I put the Rum into a crockpot set on low with the Apple cider ( put as much Spiced Rum as you like) I use Captain Morgan but you can use whatever brand you like. Take an Orange and thinly slice it, then cut the pieces of Orange into 4 smaller sections and add to the punch. Let mixture simmer on low. It's basically the same as a Wassail bowl, except when I make wassail bowl, I put big pan on the stove and add whole Oranges with Cloves pushed into them, while it simmers. It's the only drink I've ever had that doesn't give me a terrible hangover on Christmas day...I think it's the apple cider that burns the rum out of the system...lol Embarrassed
