Truck carrying 18 tonnes of explosives stolen in Mexico
Feb 19, 2010, 21:24 GMT

Mexico City - Unidentified attackers stole a truck carrying 18 tonnes of explosives in northern Mexico, Mexican media reported Friday.

Police found the truck cabin on a road linking the northern Mexican cities of Saltillo and Monterrey, but the trailer with the load was missing, according to preliminary reports citing Nuevo Leon Public Security Minister Carlos Jauregui.

The explosives were reportedly being taken to the Mexican city of Nuevo Laredo, on the US border. There was no immediate indication of the use that was to be made of the stolen material.

Amid great secrecy from the authorities, Mexican media reported that the driver and his co-pilot were missing and that the truck cabin appeared to have been hit by several bullets.

That truck would not head South, but the cargo would likely be broken down, mixed with Agricultural products, and be headed North.
The empty Trailer will likely be found in a small canyon in Baja.

Good news! It's been found. (Or at least, that's what the authorities are saying...)

18 tons of stolen explosives found in Mexico
2010-02-21

Mexico City:  The police recovered 18 tons of explosives that had been stolen hours earlier in northern Mexico, authorities said.

The industrial-use explosives were stolen from a tractor-trailer on a highway near the border between the states of Nuevo Leon and Coahuila, prompting federal police and army soldiers to launch an operation to relocate the material, the federal Public Safety Secretariat said.

The shipment was later recovered on a highway leading to the industrial city of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon's capital.
