Got a feeling it will be beneficial to have the direct link.  The real time image simulator and information can be found here:

Here's what spaceweather says....

"The display was sparked by a fluctuation in the solar wind. Magnetic fields inside the solar wind tipped south and partially canceled the magnetic field of our own planet. This opened a hole in Earth's magnetosphere. Solar wind poured in and ignited the auroras.

Oh.... Undecided

I wondered if this solar flare might relate to 30's diagram, the increased number of quakes today  http://www.terminusreality.com/forum/index.php/topic,780.msg3783.html#new  (And, I worry about whatever else such things mean.)

See the link   http://spaceweather.com/ for more info and & to see a short movie of it.

"FARSIDE FLARES--MORE TO COME? An active sunspot is about to emerge over the sun's southeastern horizon. It announced itself yesterday with a C4-class flare that hurled material high above the stellar surface. . . .

Although the explosion happened behind the limb of the sun, it nevertheless yielded enough x-radiation to produce a wave of ionization in Earth's upper atmosphere. Researcher Rob Stammes recorded a sudden ionospheric disturbance (SID) when the wave passed over his lab in Laukvik, Norway. . . .  Without even showing itself, the sunspot is already geoeffective."
