Experts are saying a volcano in Iceland is threatening to erupt, and it could send up an ash cloud that would make last year's massive air-traffic disruption seem minor.

The much more powerful volcano, called Katla, is also much more pronounceable compared to the nearby Eyjafjallajokull that halted thousands of flights across Europe in April and May last year that cost airlines $2 billion.

Katla's last major eruption was in 1918, and it was catastrophic. The ash blocked sunlight, resulting in dead crops and  livestock. The eruption also caused the volcano's ice covering to melt, which led to devastating floods.

Small earthquakes in the surrounding areas are making an eruption more likely, according to seismologists. Icelandic officials have an evacuation plan and temporary housing in place.

hmmm, remember reading last year that traditionally, Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull is 'little sister' to Katla, and that Katla has never gone off without Eyjafetc. going off first.  Check.

Obviously, volcanoes worldover are excited.  We live within 10 miles of a cratered volcano remnant that last blew off about 70,000 years ago.  Our well is so stirred up (5000 feet altitude), we are getting tremendous amounts of iron in the water now, never so much before.  In last year or so, we have had a couple of small sinkholes appear in our yard (for the most part, our place sits on huge slabs of granite which is why it's so hard to keep a fence standing around here ha).  FWIW

Hoping for the best for all,

Keep the faith babies!
