Earthquake rocks Britain's south coast Greig Box-Turnbull

AN earthquake under the English Channel rocked the South Coast yesterday.
The 3.9 magnitude tremor – the
strongest in the area for nearly 300 years – struck six miles
beneath a major shipping route at 7.59am.
Its epicentre was 53 miles south-east of Portsmouth and buildings shook as far away as Shoreham, West Sussex, and Brighton, East Sussex. . . .
There were no reported injuries or damage.
David Kerridge from the British Geological Survey said: “This is the largest earthquake in this area since a
magnitude 4.5 event in 1734.”
