No tsunami warning for California coast, but officials are assessing risk from 8.8 Japan quake

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that a new warning could be issued as more information becomes available.

A tsunami watch was issued for a large swath of the Pacific, including Hawaii, where officials expect a wave could hit at 2:59 a.m. Hawaii time (4:59 a.m. PST). Tsunami warnings were also issued for the coast of Japan, Russia, Taiwan and Guam.

"After four years without any X-flares, the sun has produced two of the powerful blasts in less than one month: Feb. 15th and March 9th. This continues the recent trend of increasing solar activity, and shows that Solar Cycle 24 is heating up."

Then there was a magnitude 7.2 foreshock that occurred less than 48 hours later on March 9, 2011. Yesterday, there was another high amplitude Remote MT Trigger Pulse, which measured 11.4 Units..

If you had relatives in a tsunami evacuation area on the West Coast, would you wake them up in the middle of the night to warn them?  Some guy on TV keeps talking about Newport Beach & Santa Monica.  I have relatives on low coastal areas just north of these communities.  I just looked up the Tsunami Evacuation area for Huntington Beach & sure enough, my 92 yr old dad, & my sister's five-member household are both in the evacuation zone. . . .

Absolutely.  If I woke them up, the worst is that they would be mad at me.  If not, they could be dead.

Holy cow.  Some of the video coming out of the area is just unreal.

Yeah shy...HAARP picked up something.  Geez.  I hope the folks in Cali are out of harm's way with the inbound tsunami...

Wow!
We have all been watching for this one, and we are not at the Supermoon LTA peak yet.
Time to put the good scotch under the bed, and top up the bottled water and preps.

  Mizar

If the Supermoon continues on like this, I might have to put the 'good scotch' inside of me, and hide under the bed myself.

017  I've been thinking---ut oh  017 ---if you were a good swimmer, lived on a low flat island surrounded by warm water and knew in two hours a tsunami would hit. . . would you consider swimming a mile or so out to sea to escape the tsuami damage?  (Maybe I just really want to swim in warm water by Hawaii.)
