Mag 7.3 in Vanuatu this AM, was originally reported as a 7.6, that's a sizable quake, several Mag 5 aftershocks, and a small Tsunami since.  Right in the LTS Megawindow.

The whole area is popping with activity.  Mid depth (6-10 miles), surely not volcanic in nature.

When the plate pops back toward the N American landmass we could see a sizable shake along the West Coast, all the way up to Alaska.

Of note:  there is activity in the Pacific, off the coast of S America. Puerto Rico has been shaken up too.

Santiago Del Estero, Argentina.  INLAND, that is.  Just over the mountains, in the northern area of the Pampas (fertile FLAT land).  That's a large quake indeed, Mizar....considering the proximity to the coastal plate.

I guess what troubles me most is the depth of this quake.  According to USGS, the following applies:
583.6 km (362.6 miles) set by location program  yes, that is 362 MILES.

Strong earthquake jolts Japan
http://english.aljazeera.net/news/asia-pacific/2011/03/20113944958233559.html

A major 7.2-magnitude quake has hit Japan, swaying buildings in Tokyo and triggering a tsunami warning, but causing no reported casualties or damage.

The quake struck late on Wednesday morning, about 10km below the Pacific seafloor. The epicentre was about 160km offshore and 430km northeast of Tokyo.

The Japan meteorological agency issued a tsunami warning for the east coast of the main Honshu island, where a 24-inch wave was first reported at Ofunato port half an hour after the quake.

Police said they had received no reports of casualties from the quake, or from a 5.6-magnitude aftershock that struck nearby about 12 minutes later . . . .
